the Space
MATTHEW GRONDIN
(director: Granite)
"Writing, directing and putting up my first play was quite an experience - probably the most challenging (and, therefore, rewarding) experience I've had as an artist. And I could not have asked for a better home for this project than Joan Scheckel's 6608 Space. The space itself had a life of it's own - very inspiring and palpable. YOU WALKED IN AND FELT SOMETHING. YOU FELT CREATIVITY, YOU FELT THE URGE TO MAKE ART. The expansiveness of the loft allowed your imagination to take off and run wild. I felt I was truly able to create a large stage that comfortably housed the characters of the piece. I cannot tell you how many audience members came up to me afterwards, telling me how amazing the space was and what a perfect venue I had found for the play. In addition to just the space itself, it was a pleasure to have a chance to meet Joan and Carlo. I have the utmost respect for them and what they are creating here in Hollywood. Joan sets such a good example of what it means to be an artist; what it means to support art and create an environment where people are free to dive into their passion and find their own voice. It's truly remarkable. Big thanks to both of them!"
